Easter is just days away, and it’s time to get organized. Before the holiday arrives, spend some time planning a fun Easter egg hunt to keep the kids entertained. Whether you have a family hunt at home or meet the neighbors at a local park, it makes for an entertaining activity.

Ball Pit Egg Hunt

What's colorful and plastic and makes kids happy? Both ball pits AND Easter Eggs. For an eggstra challenging hunt, scatter eggs in a ball pit and have kids sort through the balls to find eggs. It'll sure be rewarding when they find they egg shapes amongst all the round ones!

Thinking Outside the Basket

Baskets are great and all, but consider switching it up this year and using a colorful pail. You can even borrow one from your beach gear or get a new one that will be perfect for the sand after you empty out the eggs.

Egg Hunt Charades

Here's a fun way to make an egg hunt into a next-level game: Fill plastic eggs with charades prompts. After the hunt is done, divide up into teams, crack open those eggs, and get ready for a laughter-filled round of charades.

Bunny Treat Holder

Toddlers will love hunting for candy, including jelly beans and mini chocolate coated egg candy, in this alternative to the traditional Easter basket.

To make: Cut a paper plate in half. Glue along the outer edges to a second uncut plate, creating a pocket. Use brown Kraft paper to create the bunnies face and whiskers and pink craft paper to create the nose; glue all to the cut plate. Make ears using white and pink craft paper and glue to the back of the full plate. Fill as desired.

Bunny Mask

Make the hunt a little mysterious with a bunny mask made from a paper plate.

To make: Cut 2/3 to 3/4 off a paper plate. Cut ears from white and pink craft paper and glue to the back of the plate along the top rounded edge. Glue white pipe cleaner whiskers (cut to desired length) and a pink pompom nose to the cut edge of the plate. Parents should cut eyes holes using an X-acto knife. Paint a thin dowel pink and glue to the back of the plate for holding the mask.

Hide a Golden Egg.

Make the hunt even more competitive by hiding one golden Easter egg. Instead of the typical candy, fill this one egg with money (you determine the amount, but even $5 will get people excited). Let everyone know ahead of time and let the games begin!

Bunny Cone Hat

Kids will love dressing up for the hunt with a bunny themed hat made from a paper plate, craft paper, and twine.

To make: Cut a large V-shape out of a paper plate (discard the V) and form the plate into a cone; glue, tape or staple the cone closed. Make ears using white and pink craft paper and glue to the back of the cone. Use black craft paper and a black hole punch to create the eyes and scissors to cut out the nose. Glue the eyes to the face. Glue lengths of thin natural twine to the back of the nose for the whiskers and pink twine to the bottom of the nose to create the mouth. Glue the nose to the cone and once in place shape the mouth and glue it in place. Glue ribbon to the inside of the cone on either side of the face for holding on place.

Host a Nighttime Hunt

Glow-in-the-dark eggs are fun, but for an extra challenge, make it completely dark! Give the kids flashlights and turn off the lights or take the hunt outside for a fun game for older kids.

Enlist the Kids to Decorate the Eggs

Kids will love hunting for the eggs they spent time decorating. These DIY fingerprint eggs are so easy to make and fun to display post hunt.

To make: Have kids dip their fingertips in craft paint and gently press them onto blown real eggs or white wooden eggs. Allow to dry completely. Once dry use acrylic paint pens or Sharpies to add details, such as a chick face and legs, carrot tops, and egg decorations. Once dry nestle in an easter basket.

Personalize an Easter Basket

Not only will it get kids excited to collect, but this idea will also make it clear whose basket is whose.

To make: Braid together three lengths of chunky weight yarn or twine, holding the ends together with a dab of hot glue. Form braid into desired letter and trim excess lengths, folding end under and holding in place with hot glue. Repeat as needed. Glue braids onto a basket forming into letter shapes as you go.

Make a Bunny Easter Basket for Collecting Eggs

The littles will be even more motivated to collect all the eggs with their oh so cute DIY bunny basket.

To make: Cut bunny ears from white and pink craft paper; attaching the two with craft glue. Attach the ears to the inside of the basket with hot glue. Attach two black buttons for eyes. Use pink twine, thin ribbon, or leather strips to create whiskers, attaching it with hot glue. Use a pink button to create the nose and to cover the inside ends of the twine.

Veggie Egg Hunt

Plop these cute, crafted eggs in the veggie patch. They will blend right in and make for an interesting challenge.

To make: Paint or dye three-quarters of a blown-out white egg pink. Create roots by attaching pieces of off-white twine to the bottom with hot-glue. Roll up light green crepe paper to create a stem; seal seam with glue. Cut leaves from crepe paper; wrap around stem, and attach with glue. Glue stem to top of egg.

Water Egg Hunt

If you're fortunate enough to be somewhere warm for Easter (or have a heated pool), head to the water for your Easter egg hunt. Simply toss eggs in, and let the kids track them down. If you have older kids who are strong swimmers, add weights to some of the eggs so they sink to the bottom. Make sure plenty of adults are on hand to make sure everyone stays safe.

Virtual Easter Egg Hunt

If you're not traveling to see family this Easter, host a virtual event! Simply send out a Zoom invite to your loved ones letting them know what time to join in. Label an egg with the name of each friend and family member who will be attending the virtual hunt. When your child finds that egg, have them show it to the corresponding loved one. You can also designate special prizes from guests, like an extra chocolate bunny from Grandma and Grandpa. Or, get guests more involved by assigning each person a clue to read hinting at the location of an egg.
