As a descendent of Maclin Hezekiah Davis, the founder of Tennessee’s Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. and its George Dickel Tennessee Whisky, Nashville homeowner Dave Goetz knows a few things about whiskey. Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 L 100 or higher proof rye whiskey (2 bottles)
  • 3/4 L Sweet Red Vermouth, such as Dolin (1 bottle)
  • 5 oz. Orange bitters, such as Fee Brothers (1 bottle)
  • Luxardo cherries for garnish
  • Orange peel, for garnish

Directions

    1. Step 1Into a 3-liter charred oak barrel, pour Rye, Vermouth, and Orange Bitters. Wait 30 days, if you can. 
    2. Step 2Fill mixing glass with ice. Add 3 oz. mixture. Stir vigorously for at least one minute.
    3. Step 3Strain into coupe glass, add orange peel and 1-2 Luxardo cherries.
