• Luke Grimes stars in ‘Marshals,’ the new ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff on CBS.
  • The series has seen huge success after just two episodes.
  • The network has already made a major decision on the show’s future.

Luke Grimes (aka Kayce Dutton) is in a world of his own in the Yellowstone spinoff Marshals, and just two episodes in, viewers are loving the energy he’s bringing to primetime TV—so much so that, in a very rare move, CBS just green-lit the second season of the series, less than two weeks after the first dropped.

On Thursday, March 12, with 11 more episodes of Season 1 still on the way, CBS announced a second season renewal for the first Yellowstone broadcast series. The quick decision comes on the tail of over 20 million viewers tuning in to the Sunday, March 1, premiere. According to the press release, Marshals cemented itself as the most-watched network original series premiere without a football lead-in since 2017. Of course, the network would want to capitalize on such viewer interest.

Marshals delivered a breakout performance, capturing a massive audience across platforms and quickly establishing itself as one of TV’s most powerful new series,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said in the release. “The overwhelming viewer response speaks to the strength of the Yellowstone world, the bold character-driven storytelling from the creative team, and the dynamic cast performances led by Luke Grimes.”

While some longtime Yellowstone fans remain on the fence about how they feel about the new spin-off, many loyalists are merely thrilled to know the Duttons will remain a mainstay on their screens—especially now with Dutton Ranch on the horizon, too. “Don't care what they say!! I'm loving it! Here for Kayce and Cal,” one Instagrammer commented on the show’s news announcement. “This is HUGE! Absolutely delighted to see the story continue after season 1, More of Logan Marshall-Green as Cal....yes please,” someone else exclaimed. “Yesss! My new favorite show on Sundays,” another fan remarked. “Oh my goodness, best news ever, and so hugely deserved. Incredible cast and really looking forward to delving deeper into each character's story,” someone else chimed in.

Marshals airs new episodes on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
