The Madison stars Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer as husband and wife Preston and Stacy Clyburn. The couple has been married for 29 years and, as Stacy tells her daughter, they never fought. But when Preston goes on his annual fly-fishing trip with his brother, Paul (Matthew Fox), the two siblings are involved in a plane crash that leaves both of them dead.
This gut-wrenching twist happens just 25 minutes into the first episode, and some Kurt Russell fans were seriously upset. Country Living shared a post about the show on our Facebook page, and the comments section was peppered with messages on the subject. “It was ruined from the start,” one viewer wrote. “Taylor Sheridan is so talented, but killing off the main characters ruins it.” Another commented, “Great show, wish Kurt had a ‘living’ part.”
One viewer noted, “I'm so sad that Kurt Russell wasn't in it very much.I thought he was gonna be in the entire show” and a disgruntled fan said, “After Kirk Russell [sic] died, I stopped watching.”
If you stopped watching after the plane crash, you might be surprised to know that Kurt Russell appears in each of the six episodes of The Madison. As his wife, children, and grandchildren travel from Manhattan to Montana to mourn their loss and re-evaluate their lives, Preston is present in the form of flashbacks.
So while Kurt’s character dies in the first episode, Preston appears in each episode of the series and shapes his family’s story. The first three episodes of The Madison are streaming now on Paramount+. The final three episodes will be available on March 21.
