The UK's top eco-friendly high streets have been revealed in a new study — and Grand Arcade in Cambridge has taken the top spot, praised for its green spaces and low number of fast food restaurants.

Research conducted by Save On Energy ranked high streets around the UK based on a variety of sustainability factors, including recycling centres, charity shops, health food stores, independent stores, charging stations and outdoor spaces.

In second place is St David's Dewi Sant in Cardiff, which has the most charity shops in the country, as well as a whopping nine recycling centres. Coppergate Shopping Centre in York, and Royal Mile in Edinburgh took the third and fourth spots, respectively, thanks to their vegan eateries and charging stations.

On the other hand, Commercial Way in Woking has been named the least eco-friendly, largely because of its poor air quality. Market Place in Warrington and Gentleman's Walk in Norwich also made the list of the least eco-friendly high streets.

The team explain: "An increasing number of Brits are seeking to embark on a more eco-friendly lifestyle today, and this growing popularity is reflected on Britain's ever-evolving high streets, with a marked increase in vegan eateries, independent businesses and health shops. But which high streets have most adapted to meet this new demand?"
