Airbnb has named Sandgate in Kent the top trending UK seaside destination for Brits this summer, thanks to its glorious golden beaches, seafront bars and colourful houses.

With many of us gearing up for summer staycations, the holiday rental platform analysed the popular seaside spots based on what users are searching for. While the coastal town of Sandgate scooped first place, Ingoldmells and Sandilands in Lincolnshire came second and third, respectively.

Whether you're after a modern seafront home or a quaint cottage that's just a stone's throw from the shore, these trending hotspots have something for everyone. Despite Cornwall not making the list, other surprising destinations include Seaburn in County Durham, Portishead in Somerset, and the charming town of Hornsea in East Yorkshire.

"There's nothing quite like the smell of fish and chips and the sound of seagulls to transport you straight into holiday mode, and this past year has seen a real resurgence of the great British seaside holiday," says Amanda Cupples, General Manager for Northern Europe at Airbnb.

"And it's not just the familiar summer stalwarts that are feeling the love; this hotlist shows that Brits are exploring lesser-known destinations and favouring well-loved gems as a means of escape this summer."
