Featherdown Farms offer family-focused, off-grid glamping on 24 farms around the UK. Their getaways are about slowing down and swapping screens and electricity for nature, wildlife and the outdoors.

Each small-scale farm location has premium canvas accommodation, all surrounded by open space, beautiful views and lovely farm animals.

Glastonbury Hill Farm, near Langport in Somerset, is a peaceful escape on a family farm, run by Peter and Sarah.

Their five rustic canvas hideaways sleep up to five adults and a child up to 12 years old. There are two bedrooms – one bunk and one double – and one cosy cupboard nook, all equipped with super comfortable mattresses.

There’s a fully functioning kitchen complete with wood-burning stove, cutlery and utensils, and a gorgeously grand wooden table perfect for candlelit dining. There’s also a flushing toilet and a hot shower.

Outside, in front of a sprawling south-facing 20-mile view over the Somerset Levels, there’s outdoor dining and seating, a BBQ area and fire pit. It’s perfect for summer sunsets outdoors but glorious still in every season, as part of a trip where the elements must be embraced in all their forms. Everything you need – from coals and local meats to drinks and sweet treats – can be collected from the on-site honesty shop just metres away.

Most mornings, host Peter offers for guests to join him feeding the animals at breakfast – a wonderful family activity and a great way to connect children to agriculture on a small and friendly scale. There’s a playground area too, so lots to keep little ones entertained.

There is a list of things to do in the surrounding area and no less than three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty to choose from: the Blackdown Hills, the Mendip Hills and the Quantock Hills – all perfect for walking, hiking and cycling.
