Keen for a career change? The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is seeking 10 volunteers to work at the remote Grade II-listed lighthouse at Spurn National Nature Reserve.
The county's answer to Land's End, Spurn is a constantly moving peninsula jutting out between the North Sea and Humber Estuary – famous for an ever-changing landscape encompassing buckthorn scrub, salt marsh, dune and lagoon.

Applicants must be available to work weekends and school holidays, eager to learn share the story of Spurn and love marine wildlife – skuas and shearwaters thrive here and seals can be spotted snoozing on the mudflats.
A good level of physical fitness is also a must – workers will have to navigate the narrow staircase that winds up the lighthouse's six storeys from the base to the lantern room.
Other duties include opening and setting up the lighthouse, as well as welcoming visitors.

Banded in black and white stripes, Spurn Lighthouse was built in the 1890s, but ceased operating in the 1980s, when many were automated. A full restoration in 2016 made Spurn shipshape and ready to receive the thousands of tourists that visit the beacon each year.
In a YWT promotional video, Lin Sunderland, herself a lighthouse volunteer, said: "To be inside a lighthouse is like going back in time; they save so many lives."
The UK is home to around 300 lighthouses – from the most southerly St Agnes in the Scilly Isles to Muckle Flugga in Shetland, a whitewashed beacon rising above sheer, sharp rocks.
For thousands of years, these life-saving structures have been reducing the risk of maritime accidents – here’s your chance be a part of that maritime history and heritage.
