A video of Scottish farmers and crofters spreading a message of hope to the public during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has gone viral, racking up 70,200 views in just 18 hours.

The one-minute clip sees 23 farming and crofting families across Scotland recite an uplifting poem. They want to reassure the public that they will continue to do everything they can to supply supermarkets and local shops with the produce they need.

From Caithness to Galloway, the heartwarming video celebrates generations of agriculture in Scotland. One line of hope said: "We know it's not easy, but we're all in this together. Let's all play our part, we'll soon be back having a blether."

While another said: "For generations we've been working from home, so stay safe and stay at home, and look forward to the times when we can get out to roam."

The project was developed by dairy farmers Colin Ferguson (from NFU Scotland Dumfries and Galloway Chairman), David McMiken (NFU Scotland Milk Committee) and Rebecca Dawes from Jane Craigie Marketing.

Colin Ferguson explained: "In these worrying times it is important that the Scottish public know that farmers and crofters are still doing all they can to keep healthy, high welfare food and drink on their tables. Scotland's farmers have been producing food for Scottish families for generations, and we are determined to keep on doing so through this global pandemic."

David McMiken also added: "We wanted to reassure consumers that despite this strange situation, there shouldn’t be any disruption to the food and drink we are able to produce and that any panic buying is completely unnecessary.

"It is important that people listen to the government advice; stay home and stay safe."
