There's really nothing like a hot cup of warm mulled wine on a winter's night. Whether you're celebrating with a Christmas party, or welcoming carolers with a cup of something cheery, or just warming yourself with a nightcap, mulled wine is delicious, full of spice and happiness.

But then, you don't always want the effects that follow that cup of warm holiday cheer: The grogginess, the restless sleep, the hangover the next morning.

Here's a recipe that has all of the joy and none of the regret. When we tested the recipe, our editors were amazed at just how much it tasted like mulled wine, with the tannins, sweetness, mild bitterness, and deep spice that you'd expect. But there's not a drop of alcohol in it! Give the recipe a try—and let us know what you think!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups 100% pomegranate juice, such as POM
  • 2 cups cranberry juice cocktail, such as Ocean Spray
  • 1 (2-inch) piece ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 3 cinnamon sticks, plus more for garnish
  • 4 allspice berries
  • 5 whole cloves

Directions

    1. Step 1Combine pomegranate juice, cranberry juice cocktail, ginger, cinnamon sticks, allspice berries, and cloves in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat until warmed through and fragrant, 8 to 10 minutes. Serve garnished with cinnamon sticks.
