Everyone loves Rice Krispies Treats. They're fun, fast, easy, and kid-friendly! But this recipe makes them 100% better by simply adding one small step: browning the butter in a pan first. Toasty, nutty, and altogether delicious, brown butter is to regular butter what your favorite crispy burger is to regular old ground beef. Trust us, you'll never make Rice Krispies Treats any other way again.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 16 oz. marshmallows
  • 3/4 tsp. flaky sea salt, plus more for garnish
  • 12 cups Rice Krispies or other crispy rice cereal

Directions

    1. Step 1Butter a 13-by-9-inch or two 11-by-7-inch baking pans. Melt butter in a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Cook, stirring constantly, until browned, 4 to 6 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in marshmallows, until smooth. Stir in salt and cereal.
    2. Step 2Press into buttered pan. Sprinkle with a few pinches of salt. Cool completely. Cut into bars.

Tip: Don't walk away while browning the butter-it will turn to just the right shade of brown in a flash.
