Ingredients

  • Cornmeal, for dusting baking sheet
  • Flour, for dusting work surface
  • 1 lb. pizza dough
  • 8 oz. lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 2 oz. extra-sharp Cheddar
  • 1 head butter, bibb, or Boston lettuce
  • 1 medium tomato
  • 1/2 small red onion
  • 1 Tbsp. olive oil
  • Kosher salt and pepper

Directions

    1. Step 1Heat oven to 425 degrees F. Dust a baking sheet with cornmeal. On a lightly floured surface, shape the dough into a 14- to 16-inch oval, circle, or rectangle and place on the prepared baking sheet.
    2. Step 2Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the beef and cook, breaking it up with spoon, until no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the barbecue sauce.
    3. Step 3Spoon the beef mixture over the dough and sprinkle with the Cheddar. Bake until the crust is golden brown and crisp, 20 to 25 minutes.
    4. Step 4Meanwhile in a large bowl, toss the lettuce, tomato, red onion, oil, and 1/4 teaspoon each salt and pepper. Arrange the salad over the pizza and serve immediately.
