Dolly Parton might be 80 years old, but that isn’t slowing her down. This year alone, the country music icon released a 50th anniversary version of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” in collaboration with Reba McEntire, Lainey Wilson, Miley Cyrus, and Queen Latifah; she opened a mega gas station—Dolly's Tennessean Travel Stop—that rivals Buc-ee’s; and now, she’s gearing up to share her inspiring life story on Broadway.
On Tuesday, July 7, Dolly announced on Instagram that DOLLY: A True Original Musical is coming to New York City in December. According to the official release, performances will begin December 7 at the St. James Theatre before premiering on Broadway on January 19, 2027—Dolly’s 81st birthday.
“This isn’t about a story about sparkle and shine on the outside,” the “Jolene” singer said in the clip. “It’s about where I really come from: where I’ve lived, what I’ve lost, what I’ve loved, and how I’ve found my way and told it in my own words, and through the music that’s been part of me every step of the journey.”
While the musical will feature some of Dolly’s biggest hits and a bevy of tunes she’s written specifically for it, Dolly herself won’t be acting in the show. Still, she’s counting her lucky stars for the opportunity to tell her story through a range of talented actors. “This really is a dream come true,” she admitted in the clip.
As the countdown to Broadway continues and the anticipation grows, some lucky fans already know what to expect. After all, DOLLY: A True Original Musical premiered at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts in Nashville last summer, and saw great success with a sold-out run.
Chances are, tickets will fly, so you’ll want to act fast. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, July 8, for Capital One cardholders on DollyMusical.com, with general sales opening on Friday, July 10.
