DIY designer Galey Alix has been busy, busy since her HGTV show Home in a Heartbeat came out in 2023. She’s written an interior design book, You Can Do Beautiful Things, which comes out in August, and she’s launched multiple home collections, including at Home Depot, where she lays claim to having the number-one designer-led collection of peel-and-stick wallpapers.

Recently, she has added more color options—and a dash of whimsy—to the line in direct response to the feedback that landed in her Instagram DMs after the first launch.

“I remember several people asking for younger and more playful patterns they could use in a nursery or playroom because they felt everything I currently offered [at the time] felt really sophisticated,” she tells Country Living. “I also got a lot of feedback requesting more color in my designs because the first launch was (albeit intentionally) very muted.” When designing her second launch, she made it a top priority to add deep greens, navy tones, and blush pinks, as well as a playful checkered pattern called “Bastian.”

Given that she is clearly in tune with what wallpaper everyone wants right now, we asked Galey: what are the biggest trends she’s seeing right now?

“I think wallpaper-goers in 2026 are feeling more empowered than ever to go bold with their walls, and not just because they are hanging wallpaper on them, but because they’re using a lot of pattern and color with said wallpaper,” she says. Below are the three specific trends that really stand out.

Wallpaper Trend 1: Florals

“Madelyn Floral” in Clayfield is dreamy.

“Floral prints especially are coming back in a big way,” Galey says, noting that her number one, two, and three bestsellers—‘Coral Way,’ ‘Aurelia Floral,’ and ‘Madelyn Floral’—are all repeating floral patterns.

“The whimsy of florals adds elegant movement to your walls, which is especially popular in powder bathrooms where there’s not a lot of opportunity for decor, so your walls are the best way to create a custom look. Florals are also more traditional, which I find people have been gravitating toward in their rug and furniture selections as well.”

Wallpaper Trend 2: Plaids

“Langley Plaid” in Linen Field wraps a dining room in cozy warmth.

“Speaking of traditional, plaid patterns are coming back in a tremendous way. There is something so ’90s nostalgic about plaid that also feels cozy and timeless, while still making a bold design statement,” Galey says. “My ‘Langley Plaid’ design is a top seller in both colors for this very reason. I think this aesthetic feels especially fresh and new right now, despite being out of favor for the last decade, thanks to the resurgence of the ‘Ralph Lauren Core’ aesthetic we witnessed leading into the winter holidays last year.”

Wallpaper Trend 3: Conversation Starters

“Marryshow Vintage” in Thyme & Charcoal makes a statement in a powder room.

“People are wanting to make an impression with their homes, and peel-and-stick is the perfect way to do so without taking too much risk,” Galey says. It’s easily removed in seconds and it’s affordable, typically a quarter of the cost of traditional wallpaper.

“Because there is less of an overall commitment when using peel-and-stick, I’m seeing both designers and DIYers make bolder choices with their prints and colors,” she says.

“My ‘Marryshow Vintage’ and ‘Bair’ patterns are perfect examples of that. Think abstract, think highly artistic, and think wild. This is what gets a conversation going after someone leaves your powder bath or sees the background of your home office over a work Zoom. Post-pandemic, I think the world in general is living their life a little more freely and peel-and-stick decisions are a small example of that, and one I fully support.”

“Bastian Checkered” in Cloud Drift would be a charming conversation starter in any nursery.

Any Trends on the Way Out in 2026?

While it’s not completely out, Galey points to one trend that’s evolving. “I think people are still on the deep jewel-toned color kick we saw rise to fame last year, but they’re dialing it back a little in 2026. For example, they may do a deep hunter green grasscloth wallpaper, but instead of wrapping an entire dining room from floor to ceiling in it, they’ll wrap the bottom half of a room in dark green wainscoting and finish the top half in dark green grasscloth wallpaper,” she says.

“The enthusiasm for rich colors is still alive and well, but in 2026 I’m seeing designers and DIYers finding more thoughtful ways to break up the intensity as opposed to leaning heavier into it. It’s a fresh take on last year’s hot take.”
