Looking to rescue a rare dog breed? From Komondors to Segugio Italianos, research by the Kennel Club has uncovered the most vulnerable breeds in the UK that you've probably never heard of.

While Labrador Retrievers, French Bulldogs and Cocker Spaniels are continuing to surge in popularity, there are a number of less popular breeds that weren't registered at all last year with the animal welfare charity. People tend to choose dogs from a pool of breeds they recognise, but there are lots of wonderful lesser-known pups that deserve the chance to be loved.

"Some breeds have such low numbers that they are completely unrecognisable to the British public, which is a concern because it means that breeds that might be the perfect fit for people's lifestyles are being overlooked in favour of other breeds that might not be, simply because they are not as well known," the Kennel Club says.
