"A relaxed, affectionate dog can make a wonderful companion at home, but it’s important to remember that every breed was developed for a reason," says Royal Kennel Club historian Ciara Farrell. "While some dogs were historically bred primarily for companionship, many popular family breeds have working roots that still shape their needs today."
