- HGTV has been mixing up the schedule lately. Some fan favorites have been canceled, while others are returning for new seasons.
- Other celebrity-based shows, like Bachelor Mansion Takeover, are on the schedule.
- Fans are feeling nostalgic for more budget-friendly shows.
HGTV has given longtime viewers a lot to talk about lately. Fans had strong reactions to the cancellations of several popular programs, including Married to Real Estate and Farmhouse Fixer. And, while the network has released a fresh slate of shows (Home Town, Fixer to Fabulous, 100 Day Dream Home, and more have returned with new episodes), there is still something missing from the schedule.
A fan on Reddit demanded, “Bring Back Budget-Friendly HGTV Shows!” and the thread was met with dozens of comments. The original poster offered this perspective: “I’ve been watching HGTV since it was the Home and Garden Channel, and I loved shows like Decorating Cents, Room by Room, and The Carol Duvall Show. These programs showed creative, budget-friendly ways to makeover homes and do crafts — projects that everyday viewers could actually try.”
The message continues, “Today, many shows focus on remodels costing $100,000 or more, which is inspiring but often out of reach. I’d love to see HGTV bring back more small-scale, practical projects for people who want beautiful results without huge budgets. Does anyone else miss these types of shows?”
Judging by the response, it’s safe to say a lot of folks feel the same way. “Does anyone remember that show Design on a Dime?” one person wrote. “It was from the early 2000s. I think they had like $1000 to do over a room. I remember loving that show when I was a renter in LA.”
“I loved Design to Sell. $2000 budget and stretch that as much as you can to do mostly cosmetic updates to a house before it’s listed for sale,” another fan commented. “It doesn’t always need to be with an end goal of making money (although that’s all HGTV shows these days). It could just be how much can you do with $1000 to freshen up your house so you enjoy it more.”
According to another poster, “Yes! I miss those shows too! I recently decided that I'm "done" with HGTV. These $100K and $200K budgets! Still being told - you can't get everything on your wishlist, it's not enough money. No more. Not wasting my time. And where is the "G" in HGTV? Nothing. Nada. Zilch.”
Fans can look forward to some returning favorites, including Love It or List It, Castle Impossible, and Renovation Aloha, but the network is also turning to some more celebrity-based shows, like Rock the Block and Bachelor Mansion Takeover.
