• HGTV debuts a new summer series this week: Worst Yard on the Block.
  • With the help of professionals, the show will transform trashed yards into beautiful outdoor escapes.
  • Worst Yard on the Block premieres on July 15.

HGTV is launching a new outdoor series that may even give you some ideas for your own overgrown jungle. Worst Yard on the Block aims to help homeowners who have let the grass get a little shaggy and the brush pile up, to the point that they need to call on the professionals.

With warm weather pushing families out the back door and into the sunshine, it’s the perfect summer watch to spur some inspiration. The network’s synopsis details that “two teams of curb appeal aficionados will search out the most unsightly yards in the country, meet the overwhelmed homeowners and perform miraculous outdoor makeovers in just a matter of days.” In Season 1, those disaster yards will include one that has been totally overrun by feral cats, and another abandoned property that has bills piling up from the city.

“These landscaping experts will transform lawns and lives by injecting new life into out-of-control outdoor spaces,” HGTV describes in a press release.

What Is Worst Yard on the Block About?

Worst Yard on the Block is a new home improvement series on HGTV focused on curb appeal and making messy outdoor spaces functional. Two expert duos will work to transform the messiest yards in America into peaceful utopias: Jared "J. Paul" Foster — an expert craftsman — and Tucker Kincaid — a lawn expert — will partner up, while lawn pro Blake Hawthorn will work with builder/designer Margo Fairchild to brainstorm new yard transformations and make them a reality.

When cleanup is out of the way, these landscaping leaders will be able to add fun, new features to these properties that take them from yucky yards to unbelievable paradises that make them the envy of all of the neighbors.

Where Can I Watch Worst Yard on the Block?

Worst Yard on the Block can be viewed as it airs on the network, or at your convenience via a few streaming services: HGTV Go, DirecTV Stream, Philo, HBO Max and Hulu. The first season of Worst Yard on the Block will feature 12 episodes, with new episodes airing at 10 p.m. ET on Wednesday nights. The show premieres July 15 with back-to-back 30-minute episodes.

While HGTV is home to dozens of innovative house remodeling and renovation series, fans have been clamoring something focused on what’s happening outside of homes. Or, as one viewer notes on HGTV’s Instagram post about the new series: “The G in HGTV has been found!!!”
