The top 10 'poshest' dogs breeds likely to be found in British stately homes have been revealed, with Labradors scooping first spot.

A new report by The Telegraph has uncovered famous posh pups around the country, including Downton Abbey's Labrador Isis, Monty Don's beautiful late Nigel, Ben Fogle's black Labrador, and, most recently, Rishi Sunak's Nova — a fox-red Labrador puppy which he introduced to the public last week.

Other dogs loved by 'posh' people include Corgis (made famous by the Queen), handbag-sized pugs and rescue dogs, thanks to Boris and Carrie Johnson's Jack Russell-cross Dilyn. As well as this, another popular dog in London is the Dachshund – perfect for folk to take along to long lunches or weekend breaks in the country.

Family-loving Labradors regularly top the list of friendliest and happiest dogs, but now they're one of the most popular among the upper class, too. "They have good manners. You can have them in the drawing room when people come for drinks or in the dining room over supper," Annika Purdey, a Tatler contributor, explains. "They're brilliant with children."

According to London pet shops, cockapoos are also one of the most in-demand dogs due to their easy temperaments and lack of shedding, while French Bulldogs have also become a firm favourite among city-dwellers.
